to touch
the staggering distance between us
and mash it
together
so I can finally
ask you,
“Will you stay, if I were to leave?”

Strangely,
I can see it clear as day;
your frown
and the way you turn away.
Not because you will
s t a y.

.
But because you were
never there to begin with
